February 2021 News Letter
Here is an update from the SSSC and we hope that everyone is safe and well.
We have details of how to make a donation in memory of Roger Bowen who died on Thursday, 28th January, and on a happier note, news of the Zoom session with Alex Sanderson for members of the SSSC.
A few words on Roger Bowen by Joe Parsonage, the chair of the SSSC.
After consultation with Roger’s family and considering this current climate, they have expressed a concern with people attending his cremation. We at the SSSC respect that request from the family together with “no flowers” to be sent. Our condolences go out to the family.
Helen, his daughter, asked if it was possible to make a donation to the memory of Roger via a rugby related charity. I advised her that the SSSC had previously donated to restartrugby.org.uk Some of you may have seen this, sent out via the Sale Sharks Supporters Club Facebook page and Away with the team. A further link is being posted via the Sale Sharks Supporters web site.
Roger was a character. Anybody who had anything to do with Sale Sharks rugby either knew him or knew of him and most spoke to him on many occasions.
He was a wonderful man in many ways. He had been Chair of the SSSC for several years and dedicated to the committee. He travelled from Wolverhampton for committee meetings. He travelled all over Europe in support of the team. A wise man of much experience in work and travel. A former player himself, Wolverhampton being one of his clubs.
To many of us he is and will always be a legend. People will talk of him for years to come. If only to say “Do you remember Roger saying, doing or just simply, do you remember Roger?”
Please feel free to donate to his memory via this good cause.
Finally. When we do run a “fun bus” I will ask everyone to raise a toast to Roger as we pass J10 on the M6.
He will be sorely missed.
RIP Roger Bowen.
Zoom call with Alex Sanderson & Members’ Quiz
Alex Sanderson will join us for a Zoom session one evening in the week beginning March 22nd, the date to be confirmed when the training plan is fixed for the week. This will be open to all SSSC members. To decide who should be able to ask questions of our leader we are running a quiz. To be clear on the date for submission of your quiz answers as there was conflicting information in the details sent to members previously, the cut-off point is 12pm on 5th March, the date of the Newcastle match. Get your answers in early, please, to avoid the rush!
If you would like to be a member or need to renew your membership, please visit our web site at salesupporters.co.uk for details. If you are a member, were the one who filled out the membership form and did not receive details of the quiz, please let us know by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
Here’s hoping we can all meet up again at the AJ Bell for live rugby before the end of the season!
March News Letter
Here is all the latest news from the SSSC.
We are having a Quiz and Curry night on 10th March, CorpAcq Stadium, Heywood Road, food served from 7pm, teams of up to 6, £10 per head. All are welcome, a good time was had by all last year. To help with catering numbers please email email@example.com if you are going to attend but it won’t be a problem if you just turn up on the night.
The next event is our Annual Dinner and Awards Evening on Tuesday 5th May 7pm for 7.30pm at CorpAcq Stadium, Heywood Road. The committee are now in the process of finalising plans for the evening and more detailed information about menu, booking and payment will be sent out later in the month. SSSC members will also receive details about voting for our annual awards, ‘Player of the Year’, ‘Best New Player of the Year’, ‘Outstanding Contribution to the Club’, and ‘Unsung Hero’. The ‘Selorm Kuadey Memorial Award’ and ‘Hall of Fame’ are nominated by the Community Trust and the SSSC committee respectively. Voting will open on 30th March and run until 19th April so if you aren’t a member of SSSC there is still time to join and vote. See https://www.salesupporters.co.uk/sssc-membership/
Unfortunately, due to high costs and lack of interest, we are not able to run a bus to Harlequins on 22nd March. However, the good news is that we are running a Funbus to Wasps on 12th April and Leicester on 26th April cost £30 for SSSC members, £35 for non-members and £10 for U16. A 32 seater coach has been booked for both so early booking is advised, details can be found here: https://www.salesupporters.co.uk/next-fixtures-and-book-the-fun-bus/ Details of how to purchase tickets to the games can be found here: https://www.salesharks.com/tickets-hospitality/away-match-tickets/
Don’t forget our 201 CLUB, it costs £5 per month, payable quarterly and there are 3 prizes each month of £100, £80 and £60.
Looking forward to seeing you at the Premiership Rugby Cup Final, ‘Come on SAYULL’
February News Letter
Welcome to the latest newsletter from SSSC.
Well done to the team for beating Saracens and making the final of the Rugby Premiership Cup on Sunday 15th March 3pm at the AJ Bell.
It was great to see lots of you in La Rochelle, a great place for a Sale away trip. A good weekend was had by all.
Our latest event was ‘Meet the Coaches’ held on 3rd Feb. Thank you to Mike Forshaw, Paul Deacon, Dorian West, Pete Anglesea and John Callard for their time and to Steve Diamond for showing his face even though it was his birthday. An enjoyable and informative evening was had by those who attended.
Our next event is a ‘Quiz and Curry night’ (a non-curry food option will also be available), on Tuesday 10th March 7pm for 7.30pm at CorpAcq Stadium, Heywood Road. This is a fund-raising event so the cost is £10 per person (£5 U16) which includes entrance and food. Teams are up to a maximum of 6. We held this event last year and it was a very enjoyable evening. Don’t worry if there are only 1 or 2 of you wanting to attend, there will be others in a similar position and teams can be put together on the night. It is a good opportunity to meet other supporters. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org if you wish to attend as we need an idea of numbers for catering purposes.
A date for your diary, Tuesday 5th May is the ‘Annual Dinner and Awards Evening’, which is always a popular and enjoyable evening. More details to follow nearer the time.
We are committed to trying to run a Funbus to away games but sometimes this is not possible due to costs, day of match and lack of travellers. Saracens away on 15th Feb and Gloucester 28th Feb are not running due to these reasons. We are hoping to run a Funbus to Harlequins on Sunday 22nd March. We need around 30 passengers to make this happen and to keep the cost at £30 for members, £35 for non-members and £10 for under 16. At the moment 7 people have declared an interest, if you are interested in travelling to Quins on a Funbus please email email@example.com
We are hoping to run a Funbus to Wasps Sunday 12th April and Leicester Sunday 21st April. Again if you are interested please email the above.
Looking forward to seeing you at the AJ Bell on 21st Feb for the Leicester game and at the final on 15th March. Here’s hoping for a win at the final and the continuing push for a top 4 finish in
the Gallagher Premiership. Come on SAYULL. Don’t forget the final of the Premiership Cup is free for season ticket holders; it has been added to your season ticket. Details and ticket prices
can be found on the link below.
Seasons Greeting to you all, here is the latest news from SSSC.
Our latest event was ‘Meet your Returning World Cup Players’ on 3rd Dec at the CorpAcq Stadium. We were honoured to have Valery Morozov, Mark Wilson, Tom Curry and Fat De Klerk present, unfortunately AJ Macginty was unable to attend. Joe, SSSC chairman, introduced each player individually and then handed over to Jamal Niaz from the club who did Q and A with the players. There was then the opportunity for supporters to put questions to the players and finally photo and autograph time. The event was well attended and supported. A big thank you to all who attended, to the players for giving their time and the club for allowing this access to the players.
We are raffling a signed England shirt and a signed pair of Chris Ashton’s boots, £1 a ticket. If you would like a chance to win either of these please come to the desk in the tent or look out for us on the concourse at the Northampton game on 21st December. We started the raffle at the Exeter game and the draw will be made after the Northampton game on 21st Dec, either would make a special Christmas present for someone. Proceeds to go to supporting Sale Sharks Academy and our chosen charity for this season, RESTART. If any one can help with selling, please email firstname.lastname@example.org
We are in the process of arranging socials for the new year, keep your eyes on social media and the website for news.
We have run 2 successful funbuses to Glasgow and Worcester, a good time was had by all. Sharks TV were filming on the Worcester bus, watch out for the footage. There are no Funbuses planned at the moment for the next confirmed away matches, Bath and Exeter are not viable, Gloucester and London Irish are Friday nights, if there is enough interest for Saracens on 15th Feb it may be possible to run one. If you are interested, please email email@example.com
Just a reminder that the Jet’s first home game in the Premiership Rugby Shield is on Monday 16th Dec 7.30pm, at CorpAcq Stadium, Heywood Rd, see some of future stars.
We also sponsor 2 of the 1861 ladies’ team, their fixtures can be found here.

You will receive regular updates of all Supporters Club activities including the Fun-Bus, Away Tickets, Social Events, Fund Raising, advice and help for European and domestic travel and much more!
