THE SSSC HALL OF FAME

JIM MALLINDER

Born 16 March 1966; Halifax. Other clubs Old Crossleyans, Roundhay.
Debut for Sale v. Northampton 1989
When Jim, a newly-appointed member of the teaching staff of William Hulme's Grammar School, walked up Heywood Road and asked to join Sale FC, he could not have predicted the influence he would have on the famous old club. An attacking full back, captain and later a coach of visionary ideas who in 2002 guided Sale Sharks to the Parker Pen Shield, their first piece of silverware aside from the Cheshire Cup. Capped by England on their Argentina Tour of 1997, and seven years later taken by his country to be an Academy coach, graduating via the Under-21 Team to the 'A' side, The Saxons. Scorer of 184 League points in 172 games.

JOS BAXENDELL

Born 3 December 1972; Manchester. Other clubs Wilmslow, Sheffield.
Debut for Sale v. Otley 1994
Jos joined Sale FC when semi-professionalism was being introduced. He was the perfect exponent of the attacking ideas of Paul Turner, being blessed with handling skills and timing at outside centre which the Sharks have found hard to replace. Coach Mark Nelson claims to have played his last game for Vale of Lune in young Baxendell's first - for Wilmslow! Scored 208 League points in 196 games, but will long be remembered for a 60 metre dash for a try against Saracens at snowy Edgeley Park in a cuptie in 2004. Capped twice by England, Jos always maintained his 'other' job as a Property Surveyor whilst playing, and smoothly moved into his second career following his final game for Sale Sharks, the 2005 European Challenge Cup victory against Pau at Oxford.

BRYAN REDPATH

Born 2 July 1971; Galashiels. Other clubs Melrose, Edinburgh Reivers, Narbonne. Debut for Sale Sharks v. Bath 2000
Successful captain of Sale Sharks and Scotland, for whom he played 60 times before stepping down after the 2003 Rugby World Cup. Nicknamed 'Brush' (after Basil Brush), Bryan was an inspirational scrum half with an outstanding pass. Widely regarded as a major contributor in the rise to prominence of the club. On his retirement in 2005 after skippering the Sharks to European Challenge Cup success, moved to Gloucester RFC as Assistant Coach to Dean Ryan. 80 League appearances, 7 tries.

PETE ANGLESEA

Born 30 October 1971; Bolton. Other clubs Aspull, Orrell, Bedford.
Debut for Sale Sharks v. Waterloo 1998

'Big Red' was a popular back row forward who 'wore his heart on his sleeve' for the club. Unlucky to have been hit by injuries when deservedly appointed club captain in 2003-4, but had recovered in time to lead the team out at Twickenham for the Powergen Cup Final. Capped by England at 'A' level, and toured with the Senior party in Argentina in 2002 after his 'Man of the Match' performance in the Parker Pen Shield Final against Pontypridd. Upon his retirement, continued to serve the game of rugby with the Sharks' Community Department and as coach for Sale FC. A true servant of the club and the game.
